WONDERFUL VERY RARE LARGE MORTLAKE VASE. By PIONEER STUDIO POTTER GEORGE J. This is a superb and I should think very rare monochrome glazed quite large vase by pioneer studio potter George J. Cox made at his Mortlake Pottery (Upper Richmond Rd, London) in 1913. It is depicted as I've mentioned as a large globular monochrome purple / blue glazed vase rendered in the Chinese (Sung) taste with hand inscribed artist's monogram, Pottery, and date to the base - see photographs and details.
It measures 8 1/2" (21.5cm) H x 7 1/2" (19cm) W approx; and is in excellent condition with no defect to report, although there are a few glaze flaws and pits but nothing that wasn't there when it came out of the kiln - again see photographs and details. This is a stunning piece of quite rare (he only potted in this country for a few years before he emigrated to the US - the year after this pot was made) piece of period historic Pioneer studio pottery in great condition, and with a realistic, yet still low, start price should have great appeal to all collectors.
THERE IS NO RESERVE ON THIS SALE. Almost everything I sell is in the condition I have bought it, unless otherwise stated, (I have learnt to my cost in the past not to tamper with an item), and therefore I have neither had items repaired nor restored.
