Have nothing in your houses that you do not consider to be beautiful or useful. Rare, Very Large French Antique Nap III Display Box Bevelled Glass & Brass - 1870s. An exceptionally large French antique display box dating from the 1860s -1870s, with six bevelled panels mounted. In elaborate brass framing, with the original tufted red velvet pillow and brass flower buttons. The two front angle panels are decorated with intricate brass appliqués of flowers and leafage. This type of box would have been a special-order creation, usually for a bride to preserve and display the headdress or tiara worn on a wedding day. It measures 8 ¼ inches wide and 6 ¾ inches deep and stands 6 inches high. Solidly made, it weighs 3.4 lbs. The tilting closure knob works well, and the box is in very good condition. There is a very small chip on the interior of the top bevelled glass panel, not that visible under the brass frame. The four elaborate feet are solidly attached. The interior red velvet cushion with its 18 tiny brass flower buttons is original and shows some surface wear.
The size and condition of such an elaborate display box is rare and could still be used to exhibit valuable family heirlooms. Vintage and antique objects have lived and been used and because of that, they sometimes show it. The condition of the object is described as accurately as possible, including its character flaws.
