Rare and exceptionally large sized late Georgian intaglio seal ring signed by Pichler or Pixler in Greek script. It depicts a debonair 18th century portrait of a handsome gentleman.
From his profile I, age this gentleman could well be the celebrated French writer and philosopher VOLTAIRE AS HE HAS A VERY WELL KNOWN IMAGE AND FAMOUS SIDE VIEW OF HIS UNIQUE noble proboscis! This is a very rare and very over sized gentlemans beautifully modelled seal in a dark brown honey glass signed by the famous Pichler. Working in the classical style the Pichler signed their name in Greek. The name was inscribed backwards on this gem so it would be legible when the ring was pressed into soft sealing wax.Can be sized by a competent jeweller. This is a very elegant, impressive and fine quality ring. Direct from a private collection. Condition is very good with very little surface wear and an insignificant sliver off the back corner of the seal. Size - 3.5 x 2.7 cms.
